Speaking Truth To Power
Because Silence Is Unacceptable
Via Tim of Democratic Left Oasis: Chomsky on “speaking truth to power” from the book “Power and Terror”: “First of all, power already knows the truth. They don’t need to hear it from us. Secondly, it’s a waste of time. Furthermore, it’s the wrong audience. You have to speak truth to the people who will dismantle and overthrow and contain power.”
My correspondence has had only one bright spot and that was with outgoing Senator Fritz Hollings, who already agreed with me. Even so, these letters put me on record as having spoken up. How could I live with my conscience knowing that America slid into fascism and I didn’t say a word? That’s why silence is unacceptable. Silence is consent.
